Highlights

The results of studies of modern education of schoolchildren are considered. It is established that many researchers speak about ambiguity of the relation of school-teenagers to official education and expansion of the informal component of education implying obtaining knowledge by teenagers from other information informative sources, one of which is the Internet, books, television programs. The researchers agree that today's young people are more and more involved in the media space, transferring traditional communicative practices into the virtual world. Gender aspects of media consumption are investigated. Researchers distinguish the interests of male and female parts of the Internet audience. For women — it is mostly communication and maintaining social ties. The structure of men's activities is wider. The studies found that the use of social networks in adolescents of different sexes are based on different motives. Girls communicate online with those they like and with classmates, and young men often use social networks to compensate for failures in real communication and search for recognition.

In this regard, it is important to know the place of information sources in the life of a modern teenager, what impact they have on their personal and intellectual development.

It is revealed that modern adolescents are active participants in the media space, which allows us to consider informal education as an important component of the educational environment. The first place in the structure of media consumption of teenagers is the Internet, the second — books, the third — television. More than half of teenagers devote a significant part of their free time to the Internet. They use the Internet for communication, entertainment, and important information. Teenage girls read on the Internet about movies and actors; more than half of teenage boys are interested in

computer games. Bloggers have become important people for modern teenagers.

It is noted that the Internet has a positive impact on adolescents and negative. Under the influence of communication in networks they have more friends, they have become bolder to Express their opinions, have become more tolerant; others, on the contrary, under the influence of the Internet has increased irritability and aggressiveness.
