Introduction. The article brings up the problems of a sedentary lifestyle of students, proposes a solution to increase the physical development of a pedagogical university student through the introduction of exercises for independent homework. The purpose of the article is to increase the independent work of students of pedagogical universities through the implementation of physical education homework and, as a result, the physical development of the youth.

Materials and methods. General scientific methods (system analysis, synthesis, classification), and logical methods and the method of literature analysis. The authors have used the methods, which made it possible to have the topic studied as fully as possible, in unity and interrelation.

Results. The authors have analyzed the literature on the introduction of homework into physical education work program and have indicated its role in increasing the independent activity of students. Based on the results, the authors have compiled a set of the homework exercises for students of pedagogical universities

Discussion. The study has emphasized the role of independent physical activity of students of a pedagogical university. The study suggests a proposal to include an additional block “homework for students” into the work program of the physical education discipline. The study notes the importance of students' motor activity, motivation of the youth to play sports. The research analyzes the effectiveness of the “homework in physical education” complex.

Conclusion. The authors have concluded that the implementation of the homework complex into the educational process helps to increase students' independent work, the formation and development of a physically active person.
