THE USE OF SONG MATERIAL FOR FORMING LEXICAL SKILLS IN HIGHER SCHOOL
Abstracts

This article substantiates the relevance of the use of didacticized song material in the process of forming intercultural textual competence during teaching foreign languages. The purpose of the article is to concretize the role of song material in the process of work on vocabulary and to analyze the diagnosis of lexical skills formation level among students at the languages faculty in higher education after introduction of didacticized song material into the educational process. Authors consider lexical skill as a structured action and analyze the main stages of memorizing a lexical unit.

Materials and methods. In the process of research, the following research methods were used: review of Russian and foreign scientists’ works, empirical (questionnaire, testing), interpretive (quantitative and qualitative analysis of the lexical skill formation level).

Results. The results of experimental work at the Foreign Languages Faculty of the South Ural State Pedagogical University proved that in the process of purposeful work to form students’ lexical skills with the help of didacticized song material, the level of their formation changes for the better. A series of popular German songs has been didacticized, the experience of their use in the process of teaching German at the Foreign Languages Faculty is described.

Discussion. The main stages of working on vocabulary are analyzed, each stage is correlated with the stages of lexical skill’s formation. The efficiency of use of musical visualization as a means of optimizing the students’ educational activity (activating the formation of lexical skill) is substantiated, one of the specific types of which is song material.

Conclusion. The results of the conducted pedagogical experiment made it possible to conclude that in the process of using the didacticized song material in the process of teaching German language, students formed lexical skills at a higher level.
