Introduction. Recently, educators in our country and abroad have been concerned about the problems of functional literacy of graduates of educational institutions as a factor for further effective functioning in a changing world. The article is devoted to the study of the potential of the main professional educational program for the training of translators in the context of the formation of global competencies that determine their success in their professional activities, as well as in the field of interaction with society throughout their lives.
Materials and methods. The article applies the method of analysis of theoretical literature on the problems of functional literacy and legal documents governing the educational process in higher education.
Results. The results consist in describing the didactic capabilities of the disciplines of the subject cycle included in the main professional educational program for the preparation of bachelors of Linguistics, the profile "Translation and Translation Studies", in the formation of global competencies included in the model of functional literacy.
Discussion. It is proposed to use the possibilities of the main professional educational program for the preparation of bachelors of Linguistics, the profile "Translation and Translation Studies" to form a globally competent personality. At the same time, the content of global competencies should be correlated with the requirements of the federal state educational standard in terms of universal competencies in order to harmonize the goal-setting guidelines of linguistic education.
Conclusion. The formation of global competencies is an important component of the professional training of translators, which will allow them to participate in the process of productive interlingual and intercultural communication, effectively perform the function of a mediator of cultures and competently build their professional career, meeting the requirements of a constantly changing society.

The ideas of functional literacy are relevant for the professional training of a future translator;
A special place in the concept of functional literacy is occupied by global competencies that provide an understanding of global and intercultural problems, effective international interaction for the purpose of collective well-being and sustainable development of society;
The main professional educational program for the preparation of a translator has sufficient potential for the formation of global competencies and a globally competent person.
