Introduction. The study of syntax at school and university is aimed at implementing the anthropocentric approach common in modern linguistics. The formation of communicative competence in the process of teaching Russian syntax requires the inclusion of all ways of expressing syntactic functions. The use of procedural phraseological units as predicates of one-component sentences is an insufficiently studied, but important issue. Purpose of the article — To present the possibilities of effective study of the impersonal sentence at school and university, to argue the need to introduce examples of the phraseological fund into the circle of analyzed units.
Materials and methods. The main research methods are the analysis of scientific literature in the field of Russian syntax, the systematization of work experience in higher education, and pedagogical observation. In this article, the exercises for studying impersonal sentences with a procedural phraseological unit as the main member include examples of the use of such constructions in literary texts, which expands students' understanding of the inclusion of impersonal sentences in different genres and demonstrates the functionality of these units.
Results. The article presents the experience of teachers of the modern Russian language in the study of syntax at the Faculty of Philology. The tested exercises are aimed at revealing the functions and semantics of impersonal sentences of the same type.
Discussion. The article shows the ways of analyzing the predicative center of an impersonal sentence with a component - a procedural phraseological unit. The material of such an analysis allows solving logical and systemic problems in the course of teaching the Russian language.
Conclusion. The authors concluded that exercises that include the phraseological fund of the Russian language provide effective work on the formation of communicative skills and abilities of a modern teacher; all the necessary shades of meaning in the Russian literary language.

The main methods of studying an impersonal sentence are defined; author's methods of studying this topic in the course of modern Russian for undergraduate students are proposed;
The main forms of procedural phraseological units in the predicate of an impersonal sentence are presented, as well as the types of tasks aimed at forming the linguistic and communicative competence of graduates of a pedagogical university;
The problem of the correlation of procedural foraseologisms with verbs in semantic and grammatical terms is defined as one of the main ones for studying the predicate in an impersonal sentence at a university.
