Introduction. In modern conditions of military-political and economic tension, the crisis of identity is intensifying, in particular in the sphere of marriage and family relations. The relevance and novelty of the presented research is due to the lack of research work devoted to identifying the connection between internality and family self-determination in adolescence. The purpose of the study is to assess the influence of internality on the family self-determination of students in the youthful age.

Materials and Methods. The research methods are the analysis of scientific literature on the problem of internality as a factor regulating human behavior in conditions of uncertainty, as well as psychological testing (a modified version of the semantic differential technique of I. L. Solomin, “Test of Life Orientations” by D. A. Leontyev, the projective technique “Unfinished proposals,” questionnaire “Role expectations and aspirations in marriage” by A. N. Volkova, “The level of correlation between “value” and “availability” in various spheres of life” by E. B. Fantalova, diagnostics of responsibility by V. P. Pryadein), mathematics statistical methods (regression analysis, one-way analysis of variance for independent samples, Kruskal-Wallace test).

Results. The study involved 324 students of Astrakhan State University. V.N. Tatishcheva aged 17 to 19 years. It was found that the indicator of internality is not expressed in 9.3 % of respondents, situational manifestation is observed in 39.5 %, and 51.2 % have a pronounced degree. Regression analysis made it possible to assess the influence of internality on family self-determination in adolescence. The study showed that internality is a predictor of family self-determination of students in the youthful age.

Discussion. It is emphasized that the severity of internality determines the significance of ideas about family roles, the value of marriage and family relationships, meaning and life orientations, competence in time, readiness to perform family functions, self-confidence and the ability to manage one’s life in the youthful age.

Conclusion. The results obtained will be in demand in the practice of psychological counseling on issues of family self-determination of students and personal understanding of the value of marriage and family relationships in connection with taking responsibility for family and demographic behavior.
