Introduction. The article examines the history of the formation of classical education on the territory of the Tobolsk province at the turn of the 18th –19th centuries. It is noted that in the territory of late development by Russians, the education of Siberians was given a significant role to secular education. The paper analyzes the methods and techniques of education and personality formation within the walls of the Main Public School.
Purpose of the article: To study the main problems of the process of formation and development of the education system in Siberia using the example of the Main Public School of the late 18th – early 19th centuries.
Materials and methods. When studying and describing the material, general theoretical research methods were used: synthesis, analysis, comparison, generalization, as well as descriptive and comparative methods; empirical research methods were used to substantiate the conclusions: pedagogical experiment and pedagogical observation.
Results. As a result of the study, the expediency of studying the history of classical education at the regional level has been proved, which will supplement the overall picture of the formation of the education system in Russia.
Discussion. The article presents for discussion the issue of the formation of the system of classical education in Siberia at the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th centuries on the basis of handwritten and printed texts of the office work of the Main Public School of the late 18th – early 19th centuries in Tobolsk.
Conclusion. It is concluded that the educational, cultural and educational activities of the Main Public School at the turn of the 18th – 19th centuries had a significant impact on the spiritual and moral education of the young generation of Siberians, on the formation of their integral personality as the future owners of the Siberian land.
