LEXICAL APPROACH TO ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING (FROM THE WORK EXPERIENCE OF TEACHER)
Abstracts

Introduction. Nowadays the process of teaching foreign languages means the formation of the communicative competence. The collocational competence, part of the foreign language competence, is the main goal of the lexical approach in teaching foreign languages. The paper is devoted to some aspects of the formation of students’ collocational competence by using the lexical approach.

Materials and methods. The main research methods involve analysis of scientific and teaching materials on the lexical approach, diachronic analysis, the method of continuous sampling, and the descriptive method.

Results. The authors presented the results of the analysis of the study course to find out whether it contains any exercises on the development of students’ collocational competence.

Discussion. The paper describes sets of exercises aimed at the formation of students’ skills to collocate words correctly.

Conclusion. The authors conclude that the use of the lexical approach in teaching English promotes the formation of students’ collocational competence.
