Introduction. In rapidly changing economic and political conditions the problem of marital and family behavior of student’s youth is one of the most urgent in modern science. The research objective is to study ideas about the future marital role among young men and women differing on the degree of expressiveness
of responsibility at different stages of age development.
Materials and methods. The theoretical review of literature, a psycho-diagnostic method, a comparative analysis of statistical data were used. Empirical research was conducted using psycho diagnostic techniques: multidimensional functional diagnostics of responsibility by V.P. Pryadein, a modified version of the semantic differential methodology by I.L. Solomin, the projective technique “Incomplete sentences”, the questionnaire “Role expectations and claims in marriage” by A.N. Volkova. The content of the images “I am a future husband”, “I am a future wife” was revealed among young men and women on the basis of correlation analysis differing in the degree of severity of responsibility.
Results. The obtained results reveal differences in the structural and content characteristics of the image of the future marital role in the representations of students depending on gender, age and degree of expressiveness of responsibility. Distortions were revealed in the students' ideas about the marital role. Thus, young men with a pronounced indicator of responsibility at the age of 17 to 19 in the image “I am a future husband” have a low estimate of intimate sexual relations in marriage. Young women with an unexpressed indicator of responsibility in early adulthood in the content of the image “I am a future wife” have a negative attitude towards joint family recreation and leisure.
Discussion. It is established that the relationship between responsibility and the figuratively constructed content of ideas about the marital role is due to the gender of the respondents. Among young men with a high degree of expressiveness of res-
ponsibility the image «I am a future husband" differs by fullness, stability of the elements of the cognitive component, actualization of the emotional and behavioral component. Among young women there is a nonlinear relationship between the degree of expressiveness of responsibility and the characteristics of ideas about future matrimony. In the group of young women with a situational manifestation of responsibility the content of the image "I am a future wife" differs by the greatest complexity, the formation of the cognitive component, the fullness of elements of the emotional component, a close connection with the ideas of motherhood.
Conclusion. The applied aspect of the problem under study can be implemented within the framework of the concept of educational work with students of the digital generation, planning measures of harmonizing influence in the course of psych corrective work with the available ideas about the marital role which will act as an indicative basis for mastering marital behavior in the future.

The development of responsibility among young men aged 17–19 years contributes to the construction of a complete image “I am a future husband”;
In the group of young women with a situational manifestation of responsibility the content of the image “I am a future wife” differs by the greatest diversity, stability of a cognitive component, individual elements of emotional and behavioral components;
The existence of distortions, instability of the formation of emotional and behavioral components in the ideas about the future marital role requires purposeful formation of adequate, realistic ideas about the nature of the social role.
