FORMATION OF PHONETIC SKILLS OF STUDENTS ON THE BASIS OF AUTHENTIC SONG MATERIAL
Abstracts

Introduction. The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation of future teachers’ phonetic skills. Particular attention is paid to the efficiency of the use of authentic song material, which allows to form an approximate pronunciation in the studied foreign language. The purpose of the article is to consider the feasibility of introducing authentic song material into the traditional process of foreign language teaching and to prove its efficiency for more successful perception of foreign phonemes, lexical units, phrasal units and texts by ear, as well as for their correct pronunciation according to phonetic norms.

Materials and Methods. The article discusses the main approaches to the formation of phonetic skills of students, an overview of the main methodological techniques is made. The advantages of using authentic song material are highlighted, which allows to solve effectively the problems of future foreign language teachers’ phonetic skills’ developing. The authors highlight the stages of work with authentic song material to achieve the goals. Authentic song material allows students to get acquainted with the phonetic features of different levels of the language, as well as with its dialectal and slang phonetic features. Thanks to this, students learn to perceive, analyze and conduct a comparative characteristic of the phonetic structure of the foreign language being studied.

Results. The authors have identified the main criteria for the selection of authentic song material, namely: the meaningful linguistic potential of the song, its tempo and rhythmic-intonation features corresponding to the task force. These criteria formed the basis of the specially developed methodological recommendations “Modern music scene in Germany”, aimed at more effective formation of phonetic skills.

The authors summarize and comprehend the results of the content analysis of works of scientists and practicing teachers on the problem of using authentic song materials in the process of teaching foreign language. It is concluded that the results of the work done by the authors, such as the dedicated criteria for the selection of authentic song material and the content of the developed by the authors methodological recommendations “Modern music scene in Germany”, are mainly correlated with the methodological positions and points of view of other authors and scientists.

Conclusion. The experience of work on the formation of future foreign language teachers’ phonetic skills proves the efficiency of using authentic song material, which allows not only to form an approximate foreign language pronunciation, but also to acquaint them with the cultural realities, traditions and musical scene of the country of the language being studied.
