Introduction. The article substantiates the relevance of the development of modern approaches to the formation of the legal culture of students; the features of the legal culture of university students are analyzed. The purpose of the article is to reveal modern approaches, including the author's, aimed at forming the legal culture of students.

Materials and Methods. The main research methods are the analysis of scientific literature devoted to the problem of legal awareness and legal education of university students; observation, conversation, questioning, methods of statistical data processing. The materials for writing the article were legal acts, such as the Federal Law "On Education in the Russian Federation", the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On the National Goals and Strategic Objectives of the Development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024", as well as pedagogical, psychological, legal literature on the research topic.

Results. The legal culture of students is defined as an integrative education aimed at educating higher school students of a lawful behavioral strategy, a high level of legal awareness, responsibility, self-criticism, legal education, social maturity, moral and legal stability, differentiation of constructive information from destructive. The forms and methods of legal education of students are highlighted, which actualize the formation of a decent level of their legal culture. A correlation is noted between the level of legal culture of students and the parameters of their legal education in educational institutions.

Discussion. It is emphasized that university students should represent the thinking, intellectual strata of the studying youth, which is impossible without the formation of a high level of legal culture among them. The process of educating the legal culture of students is aimed at increasing legal awareness, legal competencies, the formation of legal convictions, legal education, as well as law-abiding behavior. It seems to us that the structure of the legal culture of students should include such components as cognitive, reflective, essential.

Conclusion. It is concluded that the formation of the legal culture of university students contributes to its successful professional implementation as a specialist of a new formation, possessing analytical thinking, competitiveness, mobility, flexibility, proactive, extrapolating a legitimate behavioral strategy.
