Introduction. The article deals with the features of the use of art pedagogy in the modern educational space as an effective means of forming tolerance of the individual. The analysis of existing contradictions in the educational community characteristic of multicultural states is carried out. Arguments in favor of intensive use of pedagogical possibilities of art and folk art culture in the modern educational space in order to increase the culture of relations in a multinational society are proposed.

Materials and methods. Materials for the study of the problem were publications of domestic and foreign specialists devoted to topical issues and problems of tolerant personality qualities in a multicultural and multinational society, as well as the possibilities of art pedagogy in the context of improving the culture of communication and relations in a multi-ethnic society. Empirical methods (observation, experiment) and analysis of scientific and methodological literature in this area have become the main methods of research.

Results. The study of sources on the formation and development of tolerant qualities of the individual in a multicultural society by means of art pedagogy made it possible to draw the following conclusions: When using various means of art pedagogy, it is possible to significantly improve the quality of the culture of relationships in a multicultural and multi-ethnic society, since the process of "promising transformation" of tolerant personality qualities occurs in such aspects as: psychological, value and  behavioral.  The polyartistic educational environment in integration with the activity approach, which is one of the main tools of art pedagogy, will be a means of adjusting the cultural jetlag characteristic of modern society.

Discussion. The significance, functions and results of the influence of the possibilities of art pedagogy on the formation of tolerance of the individual in a multicultural society are considered. It is emphasized that the existing cultural jetlags, characteristic of modern multi-ethnic and multicultural society, can be corrected using the means and capabilities of art pedagogy.

Conclusion. Taking into account the use of multifunctional opportunities of art pedagogy in the modern educational space, the formation of tolerant personality qualities will be the most effective. The greatest positive result in the development of tolerant personality qualities and culture of relationships in a multi-ethnic and multicultural society can be achieved using an activity approach in a polyartistic educational environment, which is a fundamental component of art pedagogy.
