THE INFLUENCE OF RELIGIOSITY ON STRESS-RESISTANCE AND SOCIAL ADAPTA-TION OF PEDAGOGUES OF COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLS
Abstracts

Introduction. The article presents the results of an empirical study aimed at studying the influence of religiosity on stress tolerance and the quality of social adaptation of the individual. The study was carried out on a sample of secondary school teachers representing a group with a high level of social stress.

Materials and methods. To study the religiosity of a person , the method of self-assessment was used by direct scaling according to three main parameters: 1) religious knowledge, 2) the formation of a religious worldview, 3) the performance of religious rites. The social stress test of L. G. Reеder, the method “Anxiety and depression” (K. K. Yakhin, D. M. Mendelevich) and the method "Self-assessment of emotional states" (A. Wessman and D. Rix) were also used.

Results. It was found that indicators of religiosity have negative correlations with indicators of social stress, anxiety and depression, on the one hand, and positive associations with indicators of successful social adaptation — calmness, confidence, elation, on the other hand. The greatest number of connections with stress and adaptation indicators has such a parameter of a person's religiosity as a religious worldview, somewhat less — the performance of religious rites, the least — religious knowledge.

Discussion. Religiosity, especially religious worldview, has a positive effect on stress tolerance and social adaptation of the individual. This can be explained by the fact that a religious worldview allows a person to gain spiritual support, rethink their negative experience, and reduce the sense of personal responsibility for negative events in life.

Conclusion. Religiosity helps a person to mitigate the effects of stressors, adapt better in conditions of chronic stress, fatigue, anxiety. This allows us to better understand the role of religion in the modern world.
