Introduction. Literary education according to the federal state educational standard is aimed at nurturing an independent, creative personality, implementing a creative approach to analyzing texts in literature lessons, possessing critical thinking, capable of an extraordinary train of thought in the process of interpreting educational material. All this implies an active search by teachers for new teaching methods. Turning to comic book adaptations of classical literature in literature lessons is an interesting means of activating students, capable of not only awakening enthusiasm during text analysis, but also stimulating them to read a classic work in full. Undoubtedly, mastering the methods of skillful handling of this material is mandatory for study by students of the philological faculty at the pedagogical university.
Materials and methods. The methods of comparative and hermeneutic analysis formed the basis of this study. The survey and questionnaire survey of students were conducted on the basis of the 4th year of the Philological Faculty of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “South Ural State Humanitarian Pedagogical University” (curriculum “Russian Language. Literature”) in the 2024-2025 academic year.
Results. The results of the survey of future literature teachers on their readiness to model classes with reference not only to a classical literary text, but also to the adaptation of a canonical work into a graphic novel were analyzed. The presented analysis of the survey helps to diagnose difficulties in studying this type of text. The article also provides methodological recommendations for handling comics in literature classes.
Discussion. The presented methodological techniques for organizing classes at a university on the study of comic adaptations of classical works will help philology teachers to use a new, interesting tool, which stimulates the activity of both students and students of comprehensive schools in studying a large classical work.
Conclusion. The scientific article will help to organize educational activities in literature classes, cover a larger amount of material to be studied, and develop critical thinking in connection with an active comparative analysis of a canonical work and its adaptation into a graphic novel. We believe that only in this way can one of the main goals of modern education according to the Federal State Educational Standard be achieved — mastering meta-subject knowledge and skills of general worldview interpretation.
