PHRASEOLOGICAL SEMANTIC FIELD “SOCIAL PROBLEMS” (REPRESENTED BY PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS INCORPORATING A PHYTONYM COMPONENT)

Introduction. The article aims at studying and analyzing phraseological semantic field “Social problems”. The study aims at determination of the boundaries and structure of the field in the aspect of lexical semantic groups.

Materials and methods. The material under analysis are phraseological units incorporating a phytonym component. The analysis is conducted with the help of descriptive, distributive, linguistic and

 

culturological methods.

Results. The author outlines the main lexical semantic groups and lexemes, which are the source of these units.

Discussion. The effectiveness of the study can be determined by the further identification of universal and national features of verbalization of different phraseosemantic fields on the material of unrelated languages.

Conclusion. The largest number of units represent lexical semantic groups death, poverty and crime. The units of these groups name the main and the most considerable problems of the Russian society. The most productive lexemes are dub (oak), yel’ (fur tree), and sosna (spruce), as they are the most popular trees in Russia. The phraseological units of the field fall into the following semantic and grammatical classes: procedural, objective, adjective, adverbial, and modal. The most numerous is the class of procedural units. The sources of idioms are Russian speech, literature, the Bible. Almost all the idioms convey negative expression. The results may serve for future study of phraseological material of the two languages and contribute into composition of dictionaries for students of linguistic departments and translators.
