Stylistical analysis of the lexical features in elizabeth’s ii christmas speeches based on the lexical-semantic field “family”
Abstracts

Introduction. The article states the relevance of researching the lexical features in Elizabeth’s II Christmas messages. The paper’s goal is to describe the structure of the lexical-sematic field “family” using Her Majesty’s Christmas messages since 1952. The article also features the efficiency of the field method of analysis applied to writer’s texts.

Materials and methods. The main research methods are the field approach, context and component analysis. The article also involves scientific literature and lexicography analysis. The nexus between the lexical-semantic field “family”, its perinuclear area, and the structure of its micro fields is described. The research provides linguistic examples of the field components.

Results. The features of the Queen’s Christmas messages connected with the lexical-sematic field “family” are introduced in the paper. The research justifies the frequency of lexical item “family” in the Christmas speeches (0,003%). Furthermore, there is a description of relationships between the field nexus and perinexus area; the structure of microfields and their lexical-sematic groups. The article also covers the vocabulary style and the lexical features of the Queen’s individual style.

Discussion. It is relevant to carry out more well-grounded and detailed analysis of Her Majesty’s Christmas messages language features studying phonetic or syntaxes aspects.

Conclusion. The paper concludes that the field method is an efficient approach to analyze the lexical features of Queen’s Christmas messages; the research investigates the vocabulary style and states the role of family in Her Majesty’s lexical system. The components of the lextical-sematic field “family” are of high frequency. This fact proves their relevance for the Queen and her audience.
